Hundreds of Textbooks Are Being Shipped To A New Medical College in Iraq Drexel University College of Medicine students have boxed up and shipped out 350 medical textbooks to Iraqi medical students. The 45 boxes filled with books were sent to future physicians in Kirkuk, Iraq.

Painting a symbol of strong ties between College and Kelly family
Drexel University College of Medicine is lending its portrait of Margaret Kelly, mother of Princess Grace of Monaco, to the Grimaldi Forum, a convention and international art center in Monaco. The portrait will be used in Les Annees Grace Kelly (The Grace Kelly Years), an exhibition in homage to Princess Grace, being presented this summer. The exhibition will retrace all the various periods of the late princess’ life, including her time growing up in Philadelphia.

In a first-of-its-kind procedure, a surgeon at Drexel University College of Medicine successfully removed a woman’s gallbladder through a single incision in the patient’s belly button (click here to watch a video of the procedure). The single port access (SPA) surgery was performed by Paul G. Curcillo II, M.D., FACS, Associate Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and Director of Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Curcillo performed the surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital. The entire procedure was done with only one incision and left the patient with a hidden scar. It is believed to be the world’s first single port laparoscopic gallbladder removal procedure.
