For years, hospitals have waged
war against a bacterium known as Clostridium
difficile, or “C. diff. But now, C. difficile is becoming a problem
outside of the hospital among healthy people, and experts say recent antibiotic
use increases the risk. A new study led by Judith O’Donnell, M.D., Associate
Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Drexel
University College of Medicine, is one of several studies on C. difficile presented at the 44th Annual Meeting of
the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).

12, 2006) - Drexel University College of Medicine has teamed up with the
University’s new College of Law for a first-of-its kind “Mini-Medical School
for Trial Attorneys.” The program, co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Trial
Lawyers Association and the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel, will provide
one-day sessions on the physiology, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions
frequently encountered by trial attorneys in their work.

PHILADELPHIA (October
11, 2006) — A new study by researchers at Drexel University College of
Medicine provides proof that two magnetic sources working in tandem can
efficiently deliver drugs to a targeted area. The study, presented at the 2006
Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons in Chicago, finds that an implanted magnetic stent
paired with an external magnet may one day be used to capture and concentrate
drugs at specific sites in the body. “We haven’t reinvented the wheel yet, but
we are getting very encouraging results,” Zachary G. Forbes, Ph.D., Assistant Professor
of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine said.
