Background and Interests:

I grew up in a city at the north part of China. In 1998, I finished my four years of undergraduate education and got my bachelor's degree of science from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Wuhan University, one of the most prestigious comprehensive universities in China. Because of the strong interest in the life sciences that I gained during my undergraduate studies, I decided to apply the graduate program to learn and experience the higher biological research field. So in the same year, I enrolled in a masters program of molecular virology at Wuhan University to study a project on the vaccination of Hepatitis C virus. In June of 2001, I got my masters of science degree in the major of molecular virology. In 2002, I came to the USA and worked as scientific technician in Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Since 2003, I have been working with Dr. Anand Mehta and Dr. Timothy Block at Drexel University on several projects, including Hepatitis B virus therapeutic DNA vaccine development; anti-viral study of imino sugar treatment; et al. Under Dr. Anand Mehta’s supervision, I have research papers published and gained lots of knowledge about HBV, including viral replication, virus infection and treatment, early diagnostics of viral infection and anti-viral drug screening. After these years studying and working, I feel the intention in my heart that I need pursue a Ph.D. to absorb more knowledge to improve myself and give myself more opportunities to develop my future career. I am so happy that I can have this chance to study at Drexel University College of Medicine, a lovely university which I have been worked with for a long time, and I believe I will have a wonderful time as a graduate student at DUCOM.
