Department of Dermatology
Herbert B. Allen, M.D. Chair of Dermatology Herbert.Allen@DrexelMed.edu 215-762-5550
The goals of the Department of Dermatology are to deliver superior dermatologic care to patients at our outpatient sites and on the inpatient services of our teaching hospital; to teach basic and advanced clinical dermatologic diagnosis and therapy to medical students, dermatology residents, residents from other specialties and physicians in practice in a competent, conscientious, ethical and cost-effective fashion; and to conduct clinical and basic science research on skin disease. The Department has particularly strong sections of dermopathology and clinical dermatology along with special clinical emphasis on pediatric dermatology.
Members of the faculty conduct clinical outpatient sessions at Hahnemann University Hospital, our primary facility. Each year, the faculty performs some 700 inpatient consults and nearly 12,000 outpatient visits. These facilities and programs allow for the treatment of a full range of dermatologic problems ranging from the common to the exotic with a heavy emphasis on skin cancer.
In addition to programs within the Department, residents and staff participate in Grand Rounds and clinical teaching sessions of many other departments on an ongoing basis. |
