Dr. Fleetwood, professor and chief in the Division of Medical Humanities, holds a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Southern California. She was on the faculty of Villanova University prior to joining the medical school in 1986. She has numerous publications in journals including the Annals of Internal Medicine, American Family Physician, Hastings Center Report, Medical Education, and Teaching and Learning in Medicine. She has been awarded grants from foundations including the van Ameringen Foundation, the Culpeper Foundation, the Greenwall Foundation, as well as the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. She designed and developed the curriculum in medical ethics for both the IFM and PIL curricula at the College of Medicine, and directs the Medical Humanities activities. On the university level, she serves as associate vice provost for faculty development and equity, working on faculty recruitment, retention, and leadership across all colleges.
