 Synchromed Pump Minimize

The Medtronic Synchromed pump is about the size of a tuna-fish can or hockey puck. The pump is filled with baclofen through the skin with a needle that is inserted into a port at the center of the pump face. The baclofen flows to the spine through a soft, white, plastic catheter.

The pump lies between the layers of the abdominal wall, just below the ribs. The catheter passes around the flank on the same side as the pump, and it enters the spinal canal in the lower back.

Between the layers of the abdominal wall, the pump has a fairly inconspicuous profile, as in this thin, young adult male patient.
