Main Clinical and Scientific interests:

 

• Hepatobiliary surgery: development and standardization of surgical techniques.

Conventional and extended liver resection, ex vivo surgery, reconstructive and resective surgery of the hilum and bile duct, pancreatic surgery, multivisceral resections including vascular reconstructions, portosystemic shunt surgery­

 

• Organ transplantation: surgical techniques, immunosuppression, adjuvant therapy.

       Liver transplantation in adults and children, standard techniques and modifications (e.g. partial, split, auxiliary, and living donor transplantation); kidney transplantation in adults and children, combined and en bloc transplantation, use of cadaveric and living donors; access surgery in endstage renal disease; intestinal perfusion and transplantation; steroid-free immunosuppressive protocols; selected issues (e.g. acute hepatic failure, liver trauma, two-stage hepatectomy, Budd-Chiari syndrome, metabolic liver diseases, monitoring of primary graft function)

 

• Surgical oncology: evaluation of prognostic factors and new treatment modalities.

       Hepatocellular carcinoma, fibrolamellar carcinoma, cholangiocellular carcinoma, proximal bile duct carcinoma, metastases (colorectal, endocrine and other primaries), benign liver tumors (hepatocellular adenoma, focal nodular hyperplasia)
