Our lab is involved in the study of the molecular mechanisms of gallstone pathogenesis. We have a long-term interest in investigating the pathogenic role of gallbladder absorption in cholesterol gallstone formation. Our current research focuses on the regulation of gallbladder ion transport by second messenger systems, using a combination of biochemical, electrophysiological, immunochemical and molecular biological techniques. The results of our studies will advance our understanding of the molecular basis underlying regulation of gallbladder absorption during gallstone formation, and suggest means for the possible prevention of gallstone disease.
