Departments, Divisions, Institutes, Centers

Academic departments and divisions are organizational units as defined in the Drexel University College of Medicine Faculty Bylaws. A College of Medicine "Institute" is also an organizational unit formally created in accordance with the bylaws. The term "Center" has been used more freely. The provisions for creating institutes and centers are under consideration in the current revision of the Faculty Bylaws.

It is important that the correct names of departments, divisions, institutes and centers be used in a consistent manner in any printed or online material. On second reference in running text, a unit may be referred to as "the Department," or "the Center," as appropriate, if the meaning is clear. Do not shorten the identifying part of the name, however. Keep these short forms lowercase (the center, the department) unless you are referring to your own (as, for example, "the University" is used only in reference to Drexel).

Logos: The branding of Drexel University College of Medicine is of paramount importance. Therefore it is not appropriate for departments, divisions, institutes or centers to have their own logos. However, at the request of the director or chair of a unit, the name can be combined with the College of Medicine logo as a wordmark in a reproducible scalable file, such as a jpeg. These should not be "homemade." Please make your request to the Office of Communications and Marketing at 215-255-7330.
