Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit (MFMU) Study

The MFMU Network grant is a prestigious grant awarded to only 13 clinical academic Obstetrics and Gynecology departments in the United States. The Network was designed to investigate both the efficacy and safety of treatment and management strategies in caring for mothers at risk for preterm delivery. The Network’s large size is instrumental in addressing the major problems in clinical research design and management. The ultimate goal of the Network is to improve perinatal outcome by providing a scientific basis for clinical management, both new and existing therapies. Below are the current studies being conducted at Drexel University College of Medicine.
- STTARS – a randomized clinical trial of 17 Alpha-Hydroxy Progesterone Caproate for the prevention of preterm birth in multifetal gestation
- CAPPS – Combined Antioxidant and Preeclampsia Prediction Studies: a randomized clinical trial of Vitamin C and Vitamin E to predict preeclampsia
- GDM – a randomized treatment trial of mild gestational diabetes mellitus
- Omega-3 – a randomized trial of Omega-3 Fatty Acid supplementation to prevent preterm birth in pregnancies at high risk
- PACTG – Pediatric Aids Clinical Trial Group – observational and treatment studies on HIV+ pregnant women.
