For a more detail explanation of some lectures please see the decriptions below:

Exercise and Health: Everyone tells you -- "you need to exercise more!" It is easy to say, but it's often hard to do. Once you start: how much? how often? how intense? In this discussion, we will talk about the evidence that supports exercising for optimal health, and current recommendations.

Cardiovascular Disease in Women: Learn about the risk factors for heart disease that affect women and how to control the numbers and decrease your risk.

Women’s Health Issues: Women’s health is more than just breast cancer and osteoporosis. We’ll discuss how reproductive hormones can affect other systems, like the heart and brain. We’ll also discuss the aging process in women, which is accelerated in Western cultures. We’ll discuss the specific strategies that women can employ to slow down aging and keep themselves as healthy as they can be for as long as possible.

Omega-3 fatty acids in health and disease: Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which affect every single system in the body. A deficiency of omega-3’s underlies chronic diseases like arthritis, heart disease and depression. We’ll discuss the best ways to get omega-3’s into your diet.

Osteoporosis: An overview of this very common disorder -- one in two women will suffer from a fracture due to osteoporosis in her lifetime! Talk will include causes of osteoporosis and ways to diagnose it, as well as prevention and current treatment options.

Vitamins and Minerals: What are the most important vitamins and minerals? Should you take supplements or are they a waste of money if you eat well?

Menopause and Hormone Replacement: Did you know that the hormones estrogen and progesterone start to decrease in your 30’s, long before your menstrual periods stop? Do you know the symptoms of perimenopause? Are hormones safe to take?

Hypertension and the latest recommendations for treatment: In this lecture, prevention, causes, symptoms, and medications are discussed.

Diabetes and Kidney Disease: Protein in the Urine: In this lecture we will discuss the cause of kidney failure due to diabetes, how diet therapy can slow the progression of the disease and medication to prevent kidney disease.
