HealthTips for Travelers in July Drexel Medcast™

Dr. Mashiul Chowdhury offers advice

to avoid getting sick on your summer trip

PHILADELPHIA (July 1, 2008) – Drexel University College of Medicine has announced that travel health is the topic in the July installment of the Drexel Medcast™, a monthly medical podcast with leading academic physicians and scientists from the Drexel University College of Medicine faculty. This month features an interview with Mashiul Chowdhury, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine and director of the TravelHealth Center at Drexel University College of Medicine.

During the interview, Chowdhury discusses the various types of illnesses that can afflict travelers and offers advice to help avoid getting sick.

“Travelers do get sick – everything from jet leg to diarrhea to much more serious illnesses like malaria and hepatitis,” said Chowdhury. “That’s why it’s important, especially if you’re traveling to a developing country, to consult a physician and make sure you receive the proper vaccinations and other precautions.”

The TravelHealth Center at Drexel University College of Medicine provides travel health planning, immunizations, and customized health information for individuals and groups, including schools, missions, and other organizations. For more information, visit www.drexelmed.edu/travelhealth.
