In order for the department to provide the most advanced and comprehensive services for pregnant couples, we have assembled a team of the top obstetricians and gynecologists, RN practitioners, ultrasonographers and genetic counselors from throughout the country.
High Risk Nurse Practitioner Toba L. Spector is a certified Nurse Practitioner with a Masters degree in Women's Health from the University of Pennsylvania. Toba has been working in the field of high-risk pregnancy in an outpatient setting for many years. She provides continuity care, patient education and comprehensive care for all of our patients in collaboration with the perinatologists. She also coordinates the Mothers with Physical Disabilities (M.O.M.) Center, our prenatal program for women with disabilities.
Ultrasonographers All of our ultrasonographers are registered diagnostic medical sonographers with many years of experience performing fetal ultrasound, who work with our fetal medicine physicians. They use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment with 2-D, 3-D and 4-D capabilities to scan all pregnant patients for a complete assessment of the fetus and pregnancy. They also help our physicians guide invasive procedures. In cases of fetal abnormalities, they help further clarify the types of abnormalities.
Genetic Counselors All of our genetic counselors have extensive experience in prenatal genetics. They are board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors. Our counselors review a patient’s family genetic, medical and past pregnancy histories to determine whether there are any indications of risks to the pregnancy. They also educate patients regarding what they are at risk for, given the family history, and/or the mother’s age, discuss options of prenatal testing as well as the risks, benefits and limitations of these options. |
