Nutrition Support Service
All patients admitted to Tenet Hospitals will be screened within 24 hours by a member of the Nutrition Support Service for the possibility of requiring partial or total nutrition support. Admitted patients will be stratified into one of four categories.
- Category 1: Patients who are unlikely to require any nutritional support.
- Category 2: Patients who are unlikely to require support but for some reason may require prolonged hospitalization and should be re-evaluated on a periodic basis for nutritional needs.
- Category 3: Patients who will require a nutritional evaluation and after evaluation can benefit from supplemental enteral nutrition. (Moderate risk)
- Category 4: Patients, who by virtue of their primary disease process, require supplemental to full nutritional enteral and/or parenteral support during their hospitalization. (High-Risk)
The Nutrition Support Service will be immediately available 24 hours/day 7days/week weekends and holidays for all consultations. All category 4 high-risk patients will automatically have a Nutrition Support Service consult placed within 24 hours of stratification unless canceled by the primary service with this time period. All consults will be answered within 24 hours of request. |
