 M.D./Ph.D. Program Admissions Minimize

Admission to the M.D. /Ph.D. program is based upon the review and recommendation of the Medical School Admissions Committee and the M.D./Ph.D. Advisory Committee. Admission requires the approval by both of these committees. Scientific preparation appropriate to the planned field of doctoral study and evidence of previous research activity are required. Application to the program requires the successful completion of:

  • First, complete an application to the Drexel University College of Medicine (DrexelMed) through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Please indicate interest in the M.D./Ph.D. program by checking the appropriate box on the application. To be accepted for an upcoming fall term, you must apply with AMCAS during June 1 through December 1 of the previous year. For information on DrexelMed admission requirements please visit the website
  • In approximately four to six weeks after submitting your application to AMCAS, DrexelMed will receive your application. Approximately one week after receiving you application from AMCAS, Drexel Med will send you the supplemental application (please indicate interest in the M.D./Ph.D. program by checking the appropriate box on the supplement).
  • After receiving your secondary application, DrexelMed will forward your application to the MD/PhD Program.
  • If an interview is desired by the M.D./Ph.D. Admissions committee, appointments are made within six weeks of receiving the completed application. Completed applications (Medical School and Graduate School) must be received by November 1 and include:
      1. Medical School Application
        • A letter from your pre-medical committee OR
        • Three letters of recommendation (2 science related, 1 non science)
        • MCAT scores
        • Supplemental Application and fee of $75.00 (for the Medical School Application)
          • A personal statement of research interests
          • A list of all of abstracts and/or publications

MCAT scores are required and will be considered in place of GRE scores for students applying to the MD/PhD program.

Letters of recommendation should be received no later than November 15. Early application is encouraged. Qualified students are invited to the campus to interview with selected faculty members, including members of theM.D./Ph.D. Advisory Committee, and with students in the M.D./Ph.D. program. Final selections are made by the Advisory Committee.

The M.D./Ph.D. program selects three dates to interview MD/PhD applicants. On these designated dates, no other medical school interview are conducted.

Students in the MD/PhD program recieve a full tuition waiver, a competitive stipend and medical insurance allowance throughout the course of study.
