Patient Care

Dr. Anita Gupta is currently the medical director of the Division of Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesiology at Hahnemann University Hospital and Drexel University College of Medicine. She is committed to a standard of excellence and leadership in patient care, education, and discovery in pain medicine. Working with a expert multidisciplinary team of specialists at Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Gupta offers the most advanced treatment options currently available, in a supportive, compassionate environment.

As an international expert and leader in the field of anesthesiology and pain medicine, Dr. Gupta has been involved in development of pain practices at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center-Hamilton, NJ, and has served as a leader in the American Pain Society as co-chair of the Pharmacotherapy Section in 2010 and 2011. She received the National Patients and Compassionate Physician Choice Award® in 2010 and 2011. Dr. Gupta has been involved with national organizations including the American Society of Anesthesiology and was selected to lead discussions with Pennsylvania Congressmen to discuss health reform and pain medicine.

Dr. Gupta completed extensive spokesperson training for health care and media professionals with Burness Communications in Washington, DC in 2010 and has been recognized as a Mayday Foundation/Burness Communications fellow. Recently, she has received additional training from health media leaders representing the New York Times and the Washington Post. Dr. Gupta is the author of "Interventional Pain Medicine" by Oxford University Press, a blog author on Better Health, and has been the lead author on Philadelphia Inquirer's Health Section.

Dr. Gupta completed her doctorate in pharmacy at Rutgers University and her medical degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her residency in anesthesiology at Georgetown University Hospital where she was chief resident and was selected as a regional representative for the American Society of Anesthesiology. During her residency, Dr. Gupta completed clinical scientist training at the National Institutes of Health at the National Institute of Heart, Lung, and Blood. Following residency, she completed a pain management fellowship from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, MD.

Teaching

Dr. Anita Gupta is involved in pain medicine education at Drexel College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital for medical students and residents. She is also involved in fellowship training program for regional anesthesiology and acute pain (Non-ACGME accredited program).

Before joining Drexel, Dr. Gupta was appointed as faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine for over three years from 2008-2011 in the Division of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology.
