In the 1960s, Dr. Bernard Eskin recognized that iodine was a major activator for the metabolism of the breast and critical to nursing and hormonal maintenance of cells and tissues. He is a sought-after speaker throughout this country and others. In 2006-2007, he updated national and international mammary gland experimental results on the influence of the forms of iodine that are most useful. As an endocrinologist, he has been interested in the hormonal variations disturbed by iodine deficiency and how these hormones affect breast tissues. These and other functions have been analyzed particularly in the menopausal and geriatric woman.

His research was done first in rats before preliminary clinical observations were made. These crucial data led to a major announcement and presentation at the New York Academy of Sciences. Through these basic and clinical studies, he recognized the potential that iodine might have as an inorganic additive or therapy for breast diseases. The large output of research and trials during the ensuing years has brought about major interest of this startling finding throughout the world. In addition to the U.S., experts from Italy, Germany, Mexico, Ireland, France, India and others continue to study both benign and malignant breast abnormalities along with Dr. Eskin`s laboratory group.

Dr. Eskin is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and director of the Menopause/Geripause Center at Drexel University College of Medicine. He also serves as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and an adjunct professor of pharmacology. He has published well over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and is the author or editor of 20 textbooks. His overall clinical care, research and teaching have been directed towards further improvements in women`s health.
