Patient Care

Dr. Carl Della Badia is dual-board certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the osteopathic and allopathic medical professions. He is the director of minimally invasive surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and practices in Center City Philadelphia and Blackwood, New Jersey.

**Dr. Della Badia will no longer be delivering babies. He will only see obstetrics patients to their 30th week of pregnancy, at which time their care is transfered to one of our other physicians at the office.**

Dr. Della Badia was instrumental in bringing birthing rooms to the City of Philadelphia, changing the regulations in the late 1970s. In the 1980s he became interested in lasers, a new field for the treatment of cervical disease at the time. He eventually became certified in laser surgery, and was the first to perform in-office laser gynecologic surgery in the South New Jersey area.

When laparoscopic hysterectomy was first introduced, Dr. Della Badia learned the technique. He performed the first tele-surgery of a laparoscopic hysterectomy in Philadelphia.

Since his arrival at the College of Medicine in 2002, Dr. Della Badia has continued to pioneer new surgical techniques. He was the first to perform Essure sterilization on the East Coast, the first in Philadelphia to perform a gynecologic robotic surgery, and was also instrumental in developing the department's surgical training program. In 1995 he developed and patented the Della Badia Laparoscopic Suturing Device.
