Patient Care

Dr. Juan Lucas Poggio's clinical expertise includes both advanced laparoscopic and open surgical management of primary and recurrent colon and rectal cancer and also anal sphincter preserving procedures for distal rectal cancer.

His clinical interests include laparoscopic treatment of diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal polyps, and anal sphincter incontinence.

Dr. Poggio has extensive experience with endorectal ultrasound for staging of rectal cancer and has been a course instructor for several years at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons annual meeting. He is also experienced in all aspects of anorectal disease including hemorrhoidal surgery with minimal pain.

Dr. Poggio is committed to excellence in the care of the patient and follows a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of colorectal cancer. He completed his training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Poggio holds a Masters in Tumor Biology from the Mayo Clinic and is actively involved in research and education.

Dr. Poggio is board certified in both general surgery and colorectal surgery, and is an active member of numerous medical societies. Dr. Poggio is also a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery and of the American College of Surgeons. He is originally from Argentina and he speaks fluent Spanish.
