Teaching

Mark Woodland, MD, is vice dean for graduate medical education and the program director for the Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency program. He previously served as the program director and acting chair of the ob/gyn department at Pennsylvania Hospital, during which time he was also medical director of Women and Children's Health Services, a large community practice in Center City Philadelphia. He served in these capacities from 1992 to 1999.

Dr. Woodland has provided national and regional leadership for resident education. He serves on the national CREOG Competency in Ob/Gyn Training as well as on the Surgical Curriculum task forces. He is recognized for teaching in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopy procedures, including hysterectomy, removal of fibroids, management of large ovarian masses, and laparoscopic approach to gynecologic concerns.

Dr. Woodland is the recipient of the 1995 and 2001 CREOG faculty award for excellence in teaching.

Patient Care

Dr. Woodland has had the honor of serving as the 116th president of the Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia and was elected to serve a three-year term as the Region 2 Representative to the CREOG. He was recognized as an area leader in women's healthcare by Philadelphia magazine in 2000. Additionally, he was recognized in the 2004 Consumer Guide of Top Docs for gynecology. He has also been ranked as a “Top Doctor” for the region in gynecologic surgery in 1999. Dr. Woodland received the 21st and 27th Annual Clarence C. Briscoe Award from the Pennsylvania Hospital for excellence in teaching and practice of obstetrics and gynecology in 1993 and 1999, respectively.

He maintains a private practice in gynecology in Philadelphia, which is predominately a surgical referral service for advanced minimally invasive surgical procedures. He remains a consultant to the industry and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the AAGL, as well as for Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Green Journal. Also, Dr. Woodland recently co-authored a text book for clerkship in obstetrics and gynecology.
