APS Staff Bios

Pamela Fried is Director of Academic Publishing Services.  A professional editor and manager with broad expertise in scientific/medical journal and book publishing, she most recently served as Managing Editor of The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Prior to that, she was Director of Journal Publishing for the American College of Physicians, where she also directed the editorial production of six to ten medical books each year. Her extensive experience in both hands-on and managerial publishing positions, which included editorial and marketing responsibilities, includes earlier employment at W.B. Saunders, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, the Institute for Scientific Information and the Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology. Fried has a bachelor of arts degree with a major in English from the College of Wooster and an MBA from Villanova University.

Diana Winters, Associate Director, was most recently Managing Editor of the Books Department of Current Medicine. She began her publishing career at Random House and moved to various editorial positions at J.B. Lippincott and Current Medicine.  She has extensive editorial and developmental experience with both books and journals in a wide range of medical specialties. She has managed editorial staff and large book projects as well as her own business as a freelance editor.  Her experience also includes teaching editing-related courses.  Winters has a bachelor of arts degree from Wesleyan University.
