Welcome
Welcome to the Mass Spectrometry Core Facility at the Drexel University College of Medicine. We are located within the Biochemistry Department at the College of Medicine on the tenth floor, Room 10-112. Our services may be used by anyone - including Drexel researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, outside academic researchers and biotech/pharma customers - to investigate or validate experimental samples in the areas of proteomics and small-molecules.
We invite you to have a look around our website and contact us with any questions or concerns you might have. We look forward to helping you investigate and solve your most difficult mass spectrometry-related problems.
History and Purpose
The microanalytical technique of mass spectrometry can be used to selectively detect, identify and quantify the type and amount of analyte in a given sample. There are many different types of mass spectrometers, but all are based on the principle of ionization of a molecule and its resulting detection and interpretation, through time of flight or mass-to-charge ratios.
The Mass Spectrometry Core Facility was founded in August of 2008 through a research initiative in the Biochemistry Department at Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly Medical College of Philadelphia/Hahnemann University). Its founding was in large part due to the work of Dr. Keith Vosseller, a principal investigator in the Biochemistry Department, Ms. Jenny Sherwood, a departmental administrator, and Mr. John D. Deuso, a mass spectrometry specialist.
The facility was created to provide researchers, both local and abroad, as well as faculty and staff, access to high quality, cutting-edge instrumentation and analysis for use in scientific studies in the fields of proteomics and small-molecule research. The facility provides service to university research programs and training for the benefit of all. The Core is open to all researchers, regardless of academic or professional associations, and will provide services on a fee basis. Because of changes in costs and materials, fees may change periodically.
