Thesis Research Summary:

I grew up and went to high school in Blackwood, New Jersey.  I received my B.S. in biochemistry from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia with minors in microbiology and forensic science.  In the beginning of my undergraduate career, I performed research for two years in an organic chemistry laboratory where I synthesized antiprotozoal drugs.  Despite enjoying organic chemistry research, I decided to pursue virology research because of my fascination with the subject.  I joined a laboratory and began investigating viral RNA/protein interactions until I graduated.  After graduating, I became a technician studying viral RNA structure, where I learned many molecular biology techniques and had the chance to help run a laboratory.  My experiences in the laboratory and my interest in virology led me to pursue a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology.  Upon graduation, I plan to begin a career in either industry or the government.  In my free time I enjoy golfing, playing tennis, reading, brewing beer and watching sports.
