Program Staff

Jeffrey Hoag, M.D., M.S., FCCP, director, assistant professor of medicine, Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Hoag graduated and completed his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Michael Sherman, M.D., associate director, associate professor of medicine, Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Sherman completed his training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has been affiliated with the hospital since 1988 and is the director of the pulmonary/critical care fellowship.

Mary Hendry, M.S., R.N., clinical nurse coordinator, an R.N. since 1980, Hendry has been nurse coordinator of the CF team since 2009 and a research nurse coordinator for pulmonary medicine at Drexel for six years. She served in the Hahnemann University Hospital Medical Intensive Care Unit for seventeen years. Past experience also includes four years as nurse manager of a medical surgical nursing unit. Hendry completed her Master in Science at Drexel University College of Medicine

Kathryn Rossé, M.W., LCSW, social worker, Rossé graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work and completed advanced training in marital and family therapy at The Marriage Council of Philadelphia. For several years she taught the loss and bereavement course at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work.

Judy Hillman, R.N., research nurse coordinator, since 1999 - affiliated with Drexel University College of Medicine in 2002 and the Drexel Adult Cystic Fibrosis in 2003. Since 1985 her nursing experience includes medical, surgical, orthopedic and critical care.

Barbara Smith, B.S., RRT, RPFT, respiratory therapist, attended Delaware County College and obtained an associate degree in health adminstration upon completing the respiratory therapy program at Mercy Catholic Medical Center. Her bachelor of science degree was completed at West Chester University. She has been a member of the Drexel pulmonary department since 2004.

Kellie Joseph, M.S., RRT, RPFT, respiratory therapist, has more than 30 years experience specializing in pulmonary diagnostics and patient education. Joseph holds a bachelor of science in business from LaSalle University and a masters degree in health education from St. Joseph's University. Adjunct faculty for the respiratory therapy program at Community College of Philadelphia since 1998.

Jostelo Garces, R.D., LDN, dietician , received her bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She went on to complete her dietetic program at California State University, Los Angeles. After five years of working with critical care and cystic fibrosis patients at USC University Hospital, she joined the cystic fibrosis team at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2009. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health at Drexel University.

 

Pulmonary Diagnostic Laboratories

Our practice has two state-of-the art pulmonary function laboratories. Our pulmonary function labs enable us to deliver high-quality pulmonary tests to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of respiratory diseases. We are also able to provide a variety of diagnostic studies to help physicians better assess their patients who might have respiratory symptoms and/or limitations. The pulmonary lab can also provide the diagnostic tools to augment other procedures in order for the physician to reach a definitive diagnosis. In order to achieve a high standard of service and patient care, we are able to provide our pulmonary services results with interpretation to physicians and patients within a 24-hour turnaround time.

Our list of laboratory services includes:

  • Spirometry, pre- and post-bronchodilator
  • Complete pulmonary function testing including lung volumes and diffusing capacity
  • Hydrogen breath testing (detects lactose intolerance)
