A neurologist at Drexel University College of MedicineThe Department of Neurology at Drexel University College of Medicine is extremely strong in three areas of research:

  • motor neuron disease
  • pain
  • dementia

There are multiple clinical trials and basic investigators in each  area.

In an era of increased educational simulations, the neurology department at Drexel Univeristy College of Medicine remains one of the few institutions in the nation that continues the tradition of grand rounds. Each week, multiple patients are presented by the department chair to an audience of attendings, guest lecturers, residents, and medical students. This ritual operates on the principle that neurology is a clinical practice. Test results and films should not take the place of a clincial examination of and discussion with the patient. The attendings offer their medical assessments while weighing the opinions of their collegues. Residents and students not only hear the evaluations of numerous doctors in one setting, but they can also observe the methodology used to arrive at their conclusions. This environment encourages intellectual curiosity while granting access to real situations.

Additionally, residents and rotating students meet daily with the chairman for morning reports. This time is used for further teaching and to discuss cases and issues from the previous day.

Our graduates pass their boards; almost all take fellowships and approximately 75 percent pursue academic careers.

The faculty and residents strive to maintain a level of excellence necessary to be an accomplished neurologist - but we also promote a collegial atmosphere that yields an enjoyable residency experience.
