Research

Research projects at APIL focus on advanced segmentation algorithms for pathology slide analysis.  The professional services and laboratories in the Pathology Department generate a large amount of data every year providing the tissue slides for research and analysis.

The current research project at APIL focuses on utilization of immunohistochemistry pathologic slides for predicting lymphatic metastasis in breast cancer patients.  Accurate prediction of lymphatic metastasis would reduce unnecessary lymph removal and ultimately the high morbidity associated with the procedure.

Research projects at APIL have been conducted in collaboration with Dr. David Breen's Drexel Geometric Biomedical Computing Group at the Computer Science Department at the Drexel University College of Engineering.
