Eye health is the topic in the February installment of the Drexel Medcast™, a monthly medical podcast with leading academic physicians and scientists from the Drexel University College of Medicine faculty.
This month features an interview with Yelena Doych, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Drexel University College of Medicine.
During the interview, Doych discusses glaucoma, cataracts, and other common eye conditions - which left untreated can lead to loss of vision and even blindness. She also talks about Lasik eye surgery, including what makes a person a good candidate for the procedure. In addition, she offers some suggestions to maintain good eye health and prevent vision loss.
“There are a number of general medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and lupus which are associated with ocular complications,” says Doych. “Also, taking certain medications can put the eyes at risk of developing abnormalities. So in general, maintaining good overall health and keeping medical conditions under control would be an ideal way of maintaining good vision.”
