Maurice Hinson, a third-year medical student, has been awarded a 2014 Excellence in Public Health Award from the United States Public Health Service for his work to achieve health equity, to eliminate health disparities and to improve the health of all groups. His notable achievement in creating the Drexel University College of Medicine Mentoring and Pipeline Program (DMAPP) was integral to his receiving this award. DMAPP is designed to increase opportunities for and advance the health and well-being of teens in an underserved Philadelphia community. The program is currently in its second year.

Happy tears, bouts of laughter, shouts of joy, a few disappointed sighs, champagne bubbles and excitement filled the air of the Student Activity Center at the Queen Lane Campus during Match Day 2014. This annual event is the day when fourth-year students learn where they will begin their residency programs. It is one of the most exciting days in a young doctor's education.

The Third Annual Medical Student Research Day, held on March 13, was another huge success. In all, 64 posters were submitted. There were three separate categories of research: MD/PhD, basic science, and clinical research. Faculty volunteers judged the posters for content, presentation and appearance. The Drexel University College of Medicine Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies recently launched a new graduate program offering a Master of Science Degree in Medical and Healthcare Simulation. This unique program offers advanced training to healthcare professionals to prepare them to teach others how to care for patients in simulation practice environments rather than practicing on patients.

The annual Drexel University College of Medicine Pediatric AIDS Benefit Concert was another smashing success, raising more than $25,000 this year for children with HIV and AIDS. That brings to over $500,000 the total amount raised since the event began 21 years ago.
