The outreach, education, research, and recruitment activities of the Institute are guided by the Scientific Advisory Committee composed of all directors of the Institute Research Centers of Excellence (RCEs). The appointments are for renewable two-year terms of office. This offers both the opportunity for continuity of membership and for flexibility for change. The Institute SAC meets quarterly. The Institute SAC is chaired by the Director of the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease.

The Institute is reviewed on a regular basis by an external Review Board composed of members representing expertise in virology, immunology, parasitology, infectious disease and clinical medicine, bacteriology, therapeutics, biodefense, molecular and human genetics, and animal model development.
