Core Curriculum

BioMed-0057.jpg

The core curriculum is a comprehensive interdisciplinary program of study for all first year master’s and Ph.D. students in the Biomedical Graduate Programs.

The goal of the core curriculum is to provide a broad foundation in biomedical sciences and serve as a framework for advanced study in more specialized areas. The course consists of the following six modules: 1Molecular Structure and Metabolism; 2Molecular Biology and Genetics; 3Cell Biology I; 4 Cell Biology II, 5Cell Signaling and Cell Cycle; and 6Cells to Systems. The first two modules will be covered in the fall semester, and the remaining four will be offered in the spring semester. Click on the Spring Semester and Fall Semester links in the menu at left for a brief description of the lecture topics covered in each of the modules.

Several topics are integrated into more than one module, but in each case, the material is approached from a different perspective. Examinations will be in essay format, with at least one exam for each module. Additional details regarding examinations will be provided at the beginning of each module. Letter grades will be issued for Core Curriculum I (Modules 1 & 2) and for Core Curriculum II (Modules 3-6). Final grades for each semester will be determined from the weighted average of the module exams
