The Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) degree is a full-time, two-year program designed for students who want to pursue advanced careers in laboratory animal science or laboratory animal facility management. Most classes are scheduled in the late afternoon and early evening to accommodate working professionals.
The Master of Laboratory Animal Science degree is also a proven enhancement to a veterinary school application. Students take a combination of graduate and first-year medical school courses to improve their qualifications for admission to schools of veterinary medicine.

Master of Laboratory Animal Science Curriculum
The Master of Laboratory Animal Science program combines the following areas of training: basic science, laboratory animal science, and a hands-on practicum. The basic science courses are designed to build a solid foundation required for a successful career in laboratory animal science. The laboratory animal science courses focus on all aspects of laboratory animal science and animal facility management. The practicum provides the student with the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they have learned to the practice of laboratory animal science.
Admissions Requirements for the Master of Laboratory Animal Science Program

Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university

Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher

General Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores at or above the 50th percentile in all areas obtained within the last 5 years

The student must request that these scores be sent directly to University School Code 2194 and Department Code 0105

Three letters of reference, two must be from science professors

Each academic year, Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph will hold one seat for an MLAS or VMS student who applies to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.
Opportunities After the Master of Laboratory Animal Science Program
Even with an ever-changing world, the need for qualified individuals in the field of laboratory animal science has remained very high, especially in universities, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology companies. By the time our students graduate, most of them already have employment offers at these institutions or are accepted into veterinary medical school.
