The Online Master of Laboratory Animal Science (Online MLAS) program is a part-time, three year program designed for individuals currently working within the field of laboratory animal science who are seeking career advancement, but are unable to relocate to attend the traditional MLAS program in Philadelphia.

Terri Shaffer, a student in the on-line Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) degree program received the prestigious Technician of the Year Award at the National meeting of the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science meeting in San Diego on October 2, 2011. The award promotes the laboratory animal technician as an integral member of a research team and encourages continuing education.
Ms. Shaffer is a Small Animal Imaging Technician/Senior Research Associate at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Also pictured with Ms. Shaffer are Julian Mesina, DVM and Richard Huneke, DVM, Directors of the MLAS program.

Curriculum
The online courses are essentially the same as those offered in our traditional program, but allow maximum flexibility for the student. The curriculum combines training in basic science with laboratory animal science. The basic science courses are designed to build a solid foundation required for a successful career in laboratory animal science. The laboratory animal science courses focus on all aspects of laboratory animal science and animal facility management.
Admissions Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university

Current employment in a laboratory animal facility, with a minimum of two years hands-on experience

Consulting mentor (lab animal veterinarian or authorized representative) at current workplace

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended

Three letters of reference, one must be from a current workplace supervisor

Personal statement stating the applicant's academic and professional goals
