The Veterinary Medical Science (VMS) Preparatory Program, the only one in the nation, is a one-year, post-baccalaureate program designed for individuals who are seeking to improve their credentials for admission to schools of veterinary medicine.
Veterinary Medical Science Curriculum
The curriculum has been designed to augment students' understanding of the basic sciences and ensure success in their professional careers as clinical veterinarians. In order to accomplish this goal, students take a combination of graduate and first year medical school courses.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Veterinary Medical Science Students
Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph will hold one seat for a VMS or MLAS student who applies to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.
Admissions Requirements for the Veternary Medical Science Program

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a focus on animal science or a related field, such as biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, microbiology, zoology or pre-veterinary studies

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

General Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores at or above the 60th percentile in all areas, obtained within the last 5 years

The student must request that these scores be sent directly to University School Code 2194 and Department Code 0105

Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended

Three letters of reference, two must be from science professors

Personal statement describing the applicant's academic and professional goals
Opportunities After the Veterinary Medical Science Program
Students who successfully complete the Veterinary Medical Science program have the option to complete the Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) degree by taking courses for two additional semesters and completing a practicum.
