Established in 1981, the Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate program has been successful in helping students gain entry into U.S. medical schools. The Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates first-year medical school basic science courses and presents them through clinical system-based modules.

The Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate program is offered at our Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento, California campus in addition to our Philadelphia Center City Health Sciences campus.
Applicants to the Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate program include students:
- Who are late in their decision to apply to medical school
- Interested in improving their academic record before applying or re-applying to medical school
- Who would like a year in a medical school setting before deciding whether medicine is the career for them
- Interested in applying to dental, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic or other health professional schools
The program allows students the opportunity to test their preparation, motivation, and commitment to medicine.

Admissions to Drexel University College of Medicine's M.D. Program
We are excited to announce that Drexel University College of Medicine will make available a minimum of 25 seats in its entering medical school class to be competitively selected from students in the Philadelphia and Sacramento Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate, Master of Science in Biological Science, and Master of Science in Medical Science programs.
Guaranteed Interview with Drexel University College of Medicine
Interdepartmental Medical Science students may qualify for a "guaranteed interview" at Drexel University College of Medicine by doing the following:
- Required application to Drexel University College of Medicine through AMCAS
- An MCAT score of at least a 27 with no section less than a 9 or a score of 30 or above on their most recent MCAT with no section less than a 7
- Grades of B or better in all fall semester coursework
Interviews are held in the spring semester after the fall semester grades are posted.
Faculty Advisors
Students in the Interdepartmental Medical Science program are assigned a faculty advisor who will meet with the student regularly and eventually write a letter of evaluation for application to health professional schools. Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate Admissions
Applicants to the Interdepartmental Medical Science Certificate program must have already fulfilled undergraduate premedical requirements and demonstrated mastery of the material at a minimum grade of "C." These prerequisites include a year of biology, chemistry, physics, and organic chemistry, including respective laboratory sections. Competitive applicants should have a 3.0 undergraduate science and cumulative GPA. Additional post-baccalaureate and graduate course work is taken into consideration. Official transcripts from all schools where coursework was attempted or taken must be released.
An MCAT score of 27 or higher is required for admission into the program. We also accept competitive scores for the DAT for dental applicants or OAT for optometry applicants.
Letters of evaluation from your undergraduate committee or two science faculty and one additional letter are required for application.
Strong applicants would have experience in health care and demonstrated a commitment to medicine.
Applications are accepted year-round, qualifying candidates are granted interviews conducted by telephone and admission is granted on a rolling basis.
