Since it was established by Barbara Schindler, M.D., in 1991, the Caring Together Program, a sponsored program of the Department of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine, has been dedicated to providing a new life without substance abuse for women and their children. Currently located at 4700 Wissahickon Avenue (Wissahickon and Route 1/the Roosevelt Boulevard), Caring Together continues this tradition into the new millennium, providing a high standard of outpatient treatment and care for women with addictions and their children.

Caring Together’s multi-disciplinary treatment team specializes in providing services to women who are pregnant and/or have children and/or who are dually diagnosed. We offer addictions/mental health individual and group counseling, psychiatric evaluation, treatment and medication monitoring, early childhood developmental evaluations, intervention and referral, on-site child care, specialized HIV counseling and testing and domestic violence individual and group counseling, individual and group parent education and family therapy, assistance with transportation reimbursement and daily meal vouchers/incentives for participation.
An array of case management services including life skills groups, assistance with and referrals for housing, employment, health insurance, budgeting literacy, education and employment training is available. Furthermore, through a special pilot project with DHS, a Family Service Coordinator is available to provide support and advocacy for the children of women who are in treatment at Caring Together with the goals of reducing the likelihood of relapse, reducing/preventing involvement with child welfare services and promoting family permanency.
Please do not hesitate to contact the staff at Caring Together at 215-967-2130 to ask a question, to consult with our addiction experts or to make referral. If you choose to refer a client, with the client’s consent, our staff is committed to keeping you involved and informed of your client’s progress. We look forward to serving you in the near future.
