Clinical pharmacy services are available to all patients at the Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice. This means a pharmacist is readily available to help with the following:
Taking medications can be difficult, especially with HIV. You need to know how these medications can improve and maintain your health. You also need to know what the possible side effects might be, and how to handle side effects if they occur. Should you take your prescriptions with or without food, and, at what times during the day? What about other medications you may be taking for other reasons? Or over-the-counter medications? How do herbal medications affect you? Are these okay to take along with HIV medicine? Also, what do you do when you need refills? What do you do when the pharmacist tells you your insurance won't pay for one of you prescriptions. With HIV infection, these issues are not just important, they may be the difference between life and death. Sometimes it seems you need a medication expert around, someone like a pharmacist, to help you figure it all out.
Well, at the Partnership, we have that. Its called Clinical Pharmacy Services. There is a pharmacist readily available to help with all those issues mentioned. This pharmacist does not fill prescriptions like the ones at the drug store. Instead, the clinical pharmacist is there to assist you and your medical provider in designing a drug therapy plan, to assist you in implementing that plan, and to monitor that the plan is working.
