Welcome to Drexel Radiation Oncology.
Our team of specialists offers an integrated approach to diagnosis, management options, and treatment of various malignant and non-malignant diseases. We are able to treat adults and children over the age of 1 year.
Our comprehensive Cancer Care Program in Center City is affiliated with the Cancer Center at Hahnemann University Hospital. We are proud to offer intensity-modulated radiation treatment (IMRT), 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, brachytherapy (including high-dose remote afterloader, or HDR, for breast, gyn, and prostate), low-dose brachytherapy prostate seed implants, stereotactic radiotherapy for brain tumors, total skin electron beam (TSEB) radiation for mycosis fungoides, and total body irradiation (TBI) as part of bone marrow transplantation. Hahnemann is one of the few university hospitals in the area to offer hyperbaric oxygen treatment to aid in wound healing. We also have a unique joint program with Wills Eye Hospital for the treatment of orbital malignancies.
We have a strong commitment to our patients and the community and have developed a strong clinical program with an oncology-trained nurse and board-certified technologists, dosimetrists, and physicists. This commitment is demonstrated by our educational and support programs developed jointly with other specialties.
Research is an integral part of this department and faculty. A number of protocols involving brachytherapy, monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of brain tumors, and histone 1 for the treatment of leukemias are being investigated. There is also participation in ECOG, COG, NSABP and other national clinical trials.
Newly installed is a Siemens Primus Dual Energy Linear Accelerator offering the most advanced technology with the advantage of IMRT. This offers the enhanced ability to pinpoint radiation more precisely for hard-to-treat areas.
