Name, Logo, Trademarks Introduction
The brand identity of Drexel University College of Medicine consists of and is represented by all the design and verbal elements that identify the College to the public: our name, trademarks, logos, tag lines, symbols and seal.
College Name
All printed communications should carry the full name "Drexel University College of Medicine." In running text, the full name must be used on first reference. Once the full name has been used in a given document, one of these shortened forms may be used:
-
The acronym DUCOM may be used if it is first introduced in parentheses after the full name.
-
The College may also be referred to as "the College" or "the College of Medicine.
-
"Drexel Medicine" may be used. Do not use "Drexel Med"; it is too casual for public materials.
-
"Drexel College of Medicine" (without University) is not correct usage.
College Logo
The Drexel University College of Medicine logo is the key element in the College's visual identity. The College of Medicine logo must be placed on all printed materials issued by or in support of clinical practices, as well as on all advertisements, posters, brochures, flyers, invitations, syllabi, newsletters, educational materials, pamphlets and annual reports.
The logo has two components: the dragon icon from Drexel University's logo, and the wordmark, which is the name "Drexel University College of Medicine," exactly as shown below. The logo should be downloaded as one piece from the logos page on the website, not typeset

The size and placement of the logo are at the discretion of the designer, but there must be a minimum of 1/4 inch of free space surrounding the logo. Do not place type, photos, or any other element within this "area of isolation."
The dissemination or use of this logo for any purpose other than as expressly authorized in writing by Drexel University College of Medicine is prohibited.
The official Drexel dragon silhouette may be used alone as a design element but it may not replace the logo. If you would like to use the dragon, please contact the Marketing & Communications Department at 215-255-7330 for a digital image and guidance on appropriate use.
Tag Lines
Drexel University College of Medicine often utilizes a tag line to accent the logo. A tag line is a phrase that helps to describe the organization. The addition of a tag line is appropriate when you want to reinforce the Drexel University College of Medicine positioning statement.
Drexel University College of Medicine has adopted two tag lines that may be used with the logo or the name of the College. The first tag line may be used for general purposes. The second may be used in materials directed to alumni.

College of Medicine Trademarks
In order to establish and maintain their uniqueness, Drexel University College of Medicine trademarks the words, phrases, logos and other elements that distinguish its brands.
The intent to trademark is signified by the ™ symbol. Essentially, the symbol says "we consider this to be our mark." (In order to simplify, we now use the ™ symbol, whereas in the past we have used SM.) If you are thinking about filing a trademark application, please consult with the Marketing & Communications Department at 215-255-7330.
Once the mark has been registered by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the registration symbol ® is used instead.
The appropriate symbol (TM or R) should appear next to the trademark the first time it appears in a document. This includes reports, advertisements, flyers, sponsorships, websites and any other publicly available materials. The right to maintain a given trademark depends in part on its being used.
