ELAM’s comprehensive curriculum combines self-study, group learning, and in-residence study of management and leadership with application of leadership competencies in each Fellow’s institution. Institutional leadership development is supported by executive mentoring partnerships that contribute to institutional improvement and to growth of the individual Fellow’s leadership potential.
The purpose of the fellowship is to build a community of women academic leaders who have broad perspectives and deep capacity to address emerging issues in academic health centers and the society they serve. The curriculum is designed to address three essential competencies:
Personal, Professional and Leadership Effectiveness
Developing a leadership style that balances strategic, operational, and relational strengths effectively applied to institutional leadership roles.
Key Projects: Building a strong Learning Community, personal development plans based upon Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and Benchmarks® 360° assessment, development of executive resume and executive summary
Strategic Finance
Facility with strategic approaches to economic management of academic health centers.
Key Projects: Case analysis of a fictional academic health center in financial crisis, benchmarking financial trends and economic indicators of academic missions
Organizational Dynamics
Exploring leadership roles in managing the complexity of academic health center structures and operations.
Key Projects: Institutional Action Project, interviews with institutional leaders, participation in the Forum on Emerging Issues
