About the Program
Welcome to the Drexel University College of Medicine Infectious Diseases Fellowship website. Our Fellowship is a 2-year program designed to provide exceptional training in the principles and practice of infectious disease medicine and in the primary and specialty care of patients with HIV. This is accomplished through a broad, well-balanced curriculum consisting of intensive clinical experiences, didactic lectures, and evidence based teaching conferences.

The core of the clinical training occurs on the inpatient Infectious Disease consult services at Hahnemann University Hospital a 496 bed academic, tertiary-care center located in Center City Philadelphia and at Abington Memorial Hospital a 665 bed regional referral center located in the Philadelphia suburbs 30 minutes north of center city Philadelphia. HIV training is based at the Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice, a large publicly funded HIV clinic located across the street from Hahnemann University Hospital.

In addition to gaining clinical expertise, advancing fellow's knowledge of the principles of Infectious Disease research is a central goal of the fellowship training program. Fellows have 6-8 months of dedicated research time over the 2 year fellowship during which time they are encouraged to engage in a mentored research project the extent of which can be tailored to meet the individual fellow's career goals. For fellows with a more extensive research interest, an externally funded third year dedicated to research may be possible. During their research experience, fellows become familiar with study design, working with an institutional review board, analysis of data, and organization of data for presentation and publication. Support is provided for all second-year fellows to attend the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of American (IDSA), where they are encouraged to present the results of their research.
Thank you for your interest in our program, we hope you'll take a minute to explore our website to learn more about the strengths of our training program.
