Letter from the Chairman
As you embark on this next chapter of your educational career development, several questions should guide your decision to become the best physician you can be:
- Can I find an environment that will not only educate but stimulate me?
- Are there opportunities for research and other instruction?
- Will somebody take an interest in me and help me reach my full potential?
Drexel University College of Medicine offers just such an experience.
Our house officers have the opportunity to treat patients with every conceivable background and level of illness. Residents are exposed to our Core Quaternary Care Center, where state-of-the-art transplantations of the liver, heart, kidney, pancreas, and bone marrow are performed, and to a premium community hospital where "bread and butter" cases are seen. Comprehensive, didactic teaching occurs every day, which provides the foundation for our interns and residents to gain the greatest amount of knowledge possible. In addition to daily teaching rounds, an impressive core curriculum has been established, which includes an evidence-based medicine series, "Doctoring" program, critical-care lecture series, clinical case discussions, etc. Along with our distinguished curriculum, enthusiastic faculty support and leadership foster a stimulating atmosphere, and our residents have flourished.
The affiliation with Drexel University also provides unique opportunities, including those with the only School of Public Health in Philadelphia, Biomedical Engineering, Information and Technology, and the LeBow College of Business. Over the past years, residents have been able to take public health and business classes, and have performed clinical and bench research with nationally renowned leading investigators. Drexel residents have presented their unique research and case reports not only at a local level, but at national conferences as well.
Lastly, Drexel has made a personal commitment to each and every one of our residents. We have high expectations for our graduates, who have continued in careers including general internal medicine, subspecialty fellowships, academics, research and public health policy. Our new Firm System was created to provide you personalized attention, to help you set goals, and to become acquainted with you on an individual level. We have the skills, resources, and vision to help you reach your full potential during this next chapter of your life.
Sincerely,
James C. Reynolds, M.D.

Letter from the Program Director
Welcome to Drexel University College of Medicine!
At Drexel, we are very proud of our deep commitment to training young physicians that is founded in over 150 years of tradition. Our mission is to produce complete, well-rounded internists with the academic, clinical and professional skills that are necessary to pursue subspecialty training or successful careers in any area of medicine. The wide-ranging experiences of our internship year also provide an outstanding foundation for our preliminary residents to continue training in other disciplines.
Our program at Drexel provides comprehensive and broad-based training, dedicated to producing confident, knowledgeable, professional and compassionate internists. The core rotations and curriculum of the program are based at Hahnemann University Hospital, a large, comprehensive, tertiary referral center located in center city Philadelphia. Our residents also rotate through Abington Memorial Hospital, a state-of-the-art, modern facility, which is located in the Philadelphia suburbs. The combination of experiences at these two facilities exposes our residents to a tremendous diversity of patients and pathology that serves as the "classroom" for their education. In addition to these clinical experiences, residency at Drexel also provides unique opportunities for those with special interest in clinical or basic science research, informatics, bio-engineering or the study of healthcare administration or public health.
We at Drexel are also committed to the personal development and mentoring of each of our residents. We recognize that the stress of residency brings with it the need for support, counseling and guidance. Our "Firm System" divides the program into smaller groups, each led by an associate program director, with the assistance of a chief medical resident and key faculty members. Each firm's leadership provides the residents with greater support, on a more personal level. The groups also foster academic and social opportunities in an atmosphere that is positive and intellectually stimulating.
Wherever you envision your future, be it as an internist, subspecialist, academician, researcher or working in the fields of public health or administration, Drexel will provide you with the well-rounded education, unique experiences and personal development that will position you to successfully attain your goal. I welcome you to consider the opportunity to benefit from our success and to add to our rich heritage, and I look forward to meeting you personally.
Sincerely,
Richard G. Paluzzi, M.D.
