2007-2008

Health Insurance

Every resident is eligible for health insurance, and has the option of choosing between the Keystone HMO, Keystone POS, and Personal Choice. House staff may request or waive coverage for spouse and children. Depending on health plan coverage, house staff will be required to contribute to the premium. Contributions are done on a pre-tax basis. House staff must enroll in Tenet’s medical coverage program within 30 days of date of hire. Benefits become effective on the thirty-first (31st) day of employment. House staff are also reimbursed for purchasing bridge insurance to cover the 30-day waiting period.

It is important to note that house staff must contact My Benefit Hotline (1-877-468-3638) immediately after a lifestyle change. Examples include: marriage, divorce, and immediately after the birth of a child. Failure to make the change/addition within 30 days after the event will result in not having medical coverage for the change/addition. Missing this deadline will require waiting until the next enrollment period. Medical coverage during open enrollment becomes effective on January 1st of the following year.

Malpractice Insurance

House staff have occurrence-based malpractice insurance for the full time of employment only while engaged in activities necessary for the completion of the residency. Those house staff are covered for claims after completion of the program. Any work outside the scope of the residency program (“moonlighting”) requires separate malpractice insurance.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Prescription drug coverage is included with each Tenet Select medical option and is only available if a medical option is chosen.

Vision

House staff will be required to contribute toward the premium. Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis.

       Resident Disability Program

This is a non-contributory plan providing salary continuation and Long-Term Disability benefits to all house staff.

Vacation

First year house staff (PGY1) receive up to three (3) weeks of paid vacation per contract year. House staff who are PGY2 to PGY8 receive up to four (4) weeks paid vacation per contract year. The actual number of vacation days should be negotiated with the program director. Vacation time must be appropriately scheduled and approved with your department chair and/or program director.
