Inpatient Consultative Services

An intensive 14-month exposure to topics in clinical Infectious Diseases occurs on the consultative services of Hahnemann University Hospital (A and B services) and Abington Memorial Hospital. While on the clinical services, the fellows participates in 40-70 consultations per month and follows 10-25 patients each day under the supervision of an Infectious Diseases attending.

Ambulatory Care Experience

Over the course of the two-year fellowship, the fellow will spend 1/2 day per week in the Partnership Comprehensive Care Clinic, which focuses on long-term care of patients with HIV infection. In addition, the fellow will attend the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Clinic, the Infectious Diseases Clinic (Hahnemann University Hospital), the Travel Health Clinic (Hahnemann University Hospital), and Microbiology (Hahnemann University Hospital).

Research

The training program includes four months of research. Each fellow is required to engage in one or more research projects, depending on his/her previous experience, research interests, and projects that are in progress with faculty members at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Evaluations

Fellows are evaluated monthly by attending physicians (written evaluation). Fellows also perform monthly evalutations of the facilities and attendings with whom they work. Fellows meet with the program director as a group monthly and individually four times a year.
