Overview of the Residency Program
Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM) residency programs are known for their academic, teaching and clinical excellence. The Family Medicine Program is a 3-year, 4-4-4 program and residents assume progressive responsibility for patient care as they progress through the training program. Residents gain experience in multiple care settings during rotations at Hahnemann University Hospital and while training at our affiliate hospitals in the urban Philadelphia area. Residents rotate as peer residents at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Northeastern Hospital. Each of these sites offers a different experience for a well-rounded, comprehensive education.
Faculty to the residency program are full-time faculty of DUCOM. The residency endeavors to promote critical thinking and self-learning skills through a variety of clinical rotations and research opportunities and a structured conference schedule. Emphasis is given to evidence-based medicine at the point-of-care. Our outpatient location in vibrant Manayunk was the first physician office at DUCOM to have the electronic medical record, and residents have full access by internet to the libraries of Drexel University and the College of Medicine.
The Department of Family, Community, & Preventive Medicine is the provider of both Student Health and Sports Medicine services for Drexel University, which offer unique opportunities for our family medicine residents, and supplement the excellent broad-based foundation of family medicine education that our residents receive. |
