Interested residents can find numerous respected, qualified mentors and start investigative research during their residency years. These topics can range from basic science to clinical research projects, which residents may pursue on a research-elective block rotation and continue on a regular basis.

A new, exciting Collaborative Research Forum was created to integrate clinicians, basic scientists, and engineers to develop innovative therapeutic and diagnostic tools to help solve disease and health problems. Audience participation is encouraged in the Integrated Research Workgroup, where residents develop interesting research questions with graduate students in basic science and biomedical engineering, and form research groups.

Every year residents are given a chance to present their work in research to the College of Medicine and Drexel University during the residency research competition in the form of posters as well as oral presentations. Residents have also presented their research at national meetings sponsored by the American Heart Association, American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Thoracic Society, among many others. Numerous abstracts, case reports, and articles have also been published in respected, peer-reviewed journals by our residents.
