Welcome to the Oral and Maxillofacial Residency Web Page.
The six-year integrated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/M.D. Program includes a medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, a two-year certificate of general surgery and a certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS).
Our program provides experience at two urban hospitals: Hahnemann University Hospital and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, which was voted one of the 10 best children’s hospitals in the United States. Both are Level I trauma centers. Over the course of the residency, our residents are exposed to a broad range of cases.
Drexel University College of Medicine has recently received glowing accolades by the LCME to several areas of “institutional strength.” We are fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and our faculty are strongly committed to providing an outstanding educational experience. Candidates who complete the program will be eligible for examination by the ABOMS.
Our medical school, the largest private medical school in the country, is the consolidation of Hahnemann Medical College and Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania. Even with over 1,000 students, the school manages to develop a personal relationship with each student.
Our division is part of the Department of Surgery, and we work closely with the department to broaden the clinical experience. Rotations on general surgery, vascular surgery, trauma, transplant surgery and critical care are all part of obtaining the two-year certificate in general surgery.
Our program matriculates one resident per year through the National Dental Match. We also accept two non-accredited preliminary positions to well-prepared applicants who wish to further their experience prior to entering an OMFS Program. Acceptance into a preliminary position does not guarantee acceptance into the OMFS Residency Program.
In closing, Drexel OMFS is a small, tight-knit department that is committed to providing a rewarding educational experience by exposure to the full scope of our great specialty. Please feel free to explore our site and contact us at any time with comments and or suggestions.
