Mission

The mission of the A.J. Drexel Institute of Basic and Applied Protein Science (IBAPS) is to promote research and educational programs in the field of protein science. IBAPS is committed to the following three-pronged approach to fostering educational and scientific relationships among Drexel faculty, Drexel students, and the community for the advancement both basic and applied aspects of protein science.

Research
Coordinate program project and center teams within and between Drexel Colleges and Schools that will encompass research utilizing basic and applied protein science.

Work with Chairs of Colleges and Schools to promote faculty recruitment, hiring, and retreats to help build protein science research and educational infrastructure.
Education
Organize seminar series in basic and applied protein science.
When useful, advise on academic coursework that will enable student exposure to both the basic and applied aspects of protein science.

Work with Colleges and Schools to foster interdisciplinary degree programs in evolving areas, such as nanotechnology, that encourage the integration of basic and applied protein science.
Community and Industry Interrelationships
Formulate outreach instruments, such as open-houses, that will expose K-12 students and teachers to basic/applied protein science and that will attract students to Drexel science programs.

Create and maintain industrial bridges that will enhance the relevance of Drexel education to future employment and that will provide funding opportunities to IBAPS-sponsored programs.
