I was born and brought up in Pondicherry, a small and beautiful union territory in India. I did my undergraduation in veterinary science in Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. My interests in the field of pathogenic microbes led me to do my master's in Divison of Avian Diseases, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Uttar Pradesh. In my master's program, I worked on Chicken Anaemia Virus (CAV), which causes an economically important important immunosuppressive disease in young chicks. The thesis work involved Molecular Characterisation of an Indian isolate of CAV by cloning and sequencing of its VP1 and VP2 genes and studying the pathogenic effect of the virus isolate in Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) chicks. The purpose of my work is to identify whether the given isolate is pathogenic or not. My work added to the earlier reports that all identified Indian isolates of CAV are pathogenic. I also studied the effect of Infectious Bronchitis virus (IBV) in SPF chicks immunosuppressed with CAV. We also studied the In vivo cytokine expression of iNOS, IFN-gamma and IL-2 in experimental chicks infected with CAV and IBV by utilizing the semi-quantitative RT-PCR technique. I feel very happy and proud to have worked under Dr K.Dhama , my guide and Dr J.M.Kataria, head, division of avian diseases. I am very excited with the prospect of doing my doctorate in Drexel. I would like to go back to my country and contribute in whatever way I can with the knowledge that I will gain during my stay in Drexel.
