Thesis Research Summary:

I come from Gandhinagar, capital of Gujarat State, in India. It’s a nice and beautiful place to live. I did my schooling in Gandhinagar and undergraduate program at St. Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad, which is an hour away from my place. My undergraduate research project was on plant tissue culture and synthesis of synthetic seeds of a medicinally important plant, Sapindus emarginatus, which is also known as soap nut. With an incite to get more research experience, I came to the USA and joined the University of Connecticut. I looked for the characteristics and function of genes involved in symbiosis in Sinorhizobium meliloti. Using gene cloning techniques, I was successful in knocking out the genes and checking the effect of mutants on alfalfa using GFP as a visualization aid. Though I have not published any paper, my advisor, Dr. Gage, has acknowledged me in one of his review papers. Since my undergraduate program, I have been inclined towards research in the field of drug discovery and human diseases, but I never got a chance to work in this field. Now, after completion of my Masters, I still hold the strong desire to work on human diseases and Drexel has given me this opportunity. I will try my best to reach my advisor’s expectations and I am sure I will succeed. After completion of PhD, I would like to go for post doc. and then join a biotechnology company as a research associate or scientist. Apart from research, I like badminton, mountain climbing, dance, music, and chatting with my friends.
