Department of Psychiatry

Research Programs

The Department of Psychiatry has multiple research projects at its various sites. Strong research programs exist in:

  • the pharmacologic treatment of psychotic, affective and personality disorders
  • the neurobiological basis for aggression and violence
  • the concomitant use of pharmacotherapy and behavioral therapy for the treatment of schizophrenia
  • neural plasticity of aging
  • neuropsychology
  • learning disorders
  • traumatic stress in children and adolescents
  • addiction treatment effectiveness
  • neuropsycyhiatry, including psychiatric and behavioral concomitants of cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), traumatic brain injury (TBI), multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and dementias and perinatal substance abuse disorders.

There is also a major program focusing on studies of child and family development.
